Pyeloplasty with UPJ Obstruction Causes

Pyeloplasty with UPJ obstruction causes may be varied which is the reason a pyeloplasty is not carried out the same way for each procedure. When the surgeon clears the ureter or kidney pelvis the underlying cause may require kidney tumor removal, bladder tumor removal, kidney stone removal, and the removal of part of the damaged ureter and renal pelvis and of course reattaching them. UPJ obstruction may present itself with symptoms of kidney stones such as microhematuria (unseen blood in urine), back pain, fever, frequent urination, or urinary retention. If a kidney stone is blocking the urine from leaving the kidney your our urologists may be able to place a thin wire into your bladder or ureter where a four or 6 wire basket will open up and grab the kidney/bladder stone and gently slide it out allowing you system to clear out the urine and remove the pressure the was expanding your kidney. As long as there is no damage to your ureters or kidneys you will have a very thin stent (tube) placed in your ureter from your kidney to your bladder to allow the urine and maybe some residual small sand sized kidney stones to flush out of your kidneys for a few weeks. Your follow up visit may include a test to see if your flow from the kidneys down to your bladder is functional along with the removal of the stent if you have had one placed in during the pyeloplasty
Pyeloplasty with UPJ obstruction may be congenital which only now manifests. Your ureters may be narrow which does not allow the urine to pass down to the bladder very well. The mechanism that allows the urine to flow down the ureters is peristalsis, which is just how your intestines allow food to pass through your body, and congenital complications may arise later in life that do not allow a segment of your ureters peristalsis to work properly, backing up the urine in the kidneys. Removing the offending section of the ureter and reattaching it to the kidney corrects the problem.
Pyeloplasty with UPJ obstruction fixes will keep you aware of your underlying cause of obstruction so that you may prevent it from occurring in the future and the reconstruction of your ureter and kidney pelvis should be repaired with a 95% success rate on your initial pyeloplasty.
